File complaint against insurance company with insurance ombudsman


Sometimes, disputes arise with insurance companies at the time of claim settlement. If you are also having any complaint with your insurance company, then you should file a complaint to insurance ombudsman following the procedure to file company’s complaint to insurance ombudsman.

How to file complaint to insurance company


a.) You can file a complaint against an insurance company by sending an email or by making a call in Customer Service Department of company. You will receive a complaint number or acknowledgment from the department in both cases.

b.) You can also take an acknowledgment by complaining in written in company's complaint department.

c.) It is mandatory for insurance company to give information to the customer within 3 days of receipt of complaint that complaint has been registered.

d.) Insurance company has to provide a solution to the customer within 2 weeks of receipt of complaint.

e.) If insurance company rejects the complaint, then it has to provide the reason of such rejection to its customer along with the possible alternative solutions for the same problem.

f.) If you don't take any further within 8 weeks of rejection of complaint, then insurance company can close the matter.

g.) Officers of IRDA also try to find a solution for your complaint after having a discussion with insurance company. But Grievance Redressal Cell of IRDA does not have right to judge the decision or to settle the claim.

Complaint of insurance company to Insurance Ombudsman


1. If you are not satisfied with the response of insurance company, then you can directly complaint in written to insurance ombudsman. Insurance ombudsman tries to solve the case as a mediator. In such a situation, insurance ombudsman sends his recommendations to complainant and insurance company.

2. Complainant has to provide a written approval within 15 days if the settlement is accepted to him. If the settlement is not accepted to him, then insurance ombudsman has to provide an order within 3 months. Insurance company is bound by ombudsman's order.

3. Offices of insurance ombudsman are in 12 major cities of India. you can file a complaint in your regional office.

4. If you are sending a complaint to insurance ombudsman by email, then its mandatory to send duly filled registration form provided on website. IRDA does not consider any complaint without registration form. To fill registration form, click on grievance option on the website of IRDA. You will find option of complaint registration form along with concerned names of officers and their addresses.
